Encrypting Android Devices

Encrypting Your Android device

What is encrypting your android device?
Encryption stores your phone’s data so it is unreadable to an unknown user.

Why is encrypting your Android devices useful?
• Your device is full of sensitive information such as address, text messages, bank account records and possible work related data.
• Encryption goes beyond just the lock screen it protects your data if it is plugged into a computer via a USB cord and there is no way of reading the data without the encryption key when it is plugged in to the computer.

How to encrypt your android device

Step 1:
Make sure to plug your device into its charging adapter because the process can take as long as 60 minutes or more. It is also required that you have at least 80% of your battery life or more to start the encryption process.
*If the phone dies during the encryption process it will cause the process to fail and maybe even cause you to lose data.

Step 2:
Go to the setting->Security->Encrypt Phone. Then it will ask you to set a password.

Step 3:
Press the encrypt phone button

Step 4:
The device will reboot several times during the process. After it is done you will be prompt to enter your password. Remember your password, as this is the only way to get into your phone.
